EDUCATIONAL FARMS

Learning through play!
Let us introduce the youngest children (through schools and families) to the world of Beekeeping,

In a beautiful experience between nature and crafts.

The program

Our company Apicoltura Luca Finocchio, based in Tornareccio, the city of honey par excellence, has been producing honey and other hive products for several generations.
The quality of our honey is attested by the various awards that this year and in past years, our company has received, participating in regional, national and international competitions.
The most important ones in New York Gold, Silver and Bronze Oscars of Brussels food the Gold Stars in London, Singapore Dubai and Brussels of Platinum Gold and Silver Medals and recognized among the 100 Italian excellences.
The passion and dedication for the world of bees and honey has driven us, now for more than fifteen years , to undertake the project “Educational Farms of Abruzzo”, through which we aim to rediscover traditions and especially healthy nutrition from the youngest to the oldest.
The intent we pursue is to raise awareness of the magical properties of honey, its simple supply chain, and the history that the farm guards in order to foster and guide the interest of new generations in bees, their fascinating world and the sweet product.
The day on the farm will be divided into 6 stages:

1st STAGE: Pleased bee friends!
Welcome, honey breakfast, general knowledge:
– physiognomy of bees;
– bee family;
– bee house;
– beekeeper’s tools and work clothes
by observing a glass hive and watching a film.

STAGE 2: Little bees and beekeepers at work
– Role playing and dramatization through an exciting stage play of the roles of bees;
– Workshop on extracting honey from combs.
Children will be the protagonists: they will uncapping the cells and turning the educational honey extractor until the honey “comes out” of the combs.
Honey that, the little beekeepers, will take home as a souvenir of their sweet product.

3rd STAGE: Doc tasters!
A sensory discovery workshop to learn about the colors, flavors and smells of various types of honey allowing children to be initiated into a greater understanding of the variety of products, their sensations, emotions and memories related to other foods.

PHASE 4: Candle
Wax workshop during which children will try their hand at making a beeswax candle that they can light at home.

STAGE 5: Between the past and the future
At the farm store, pupils will have the opportunity to taste what used to be the manual beekeeping tools of yesteryear and compare them with modern machinery, as well as being able to appreciate a photo gallery and a small library of the industry, and of course be able to purchase the many products.

6TH STAGE: Let’s have fun learning
For those who would also like to spend the afternoon at our farm, it will be possible to have lunch in the equipped green area and carry out themed recreational activities: various games to deepen, while having fun, knowledge about bees and their products.

The program may be diversified according to the age of the children/youth.

Groups of children of at least 25 will be accommodated.
Classes that do not reach this number will be amalgamated with classes from other schools, not penalizing teaching activities in the least.

The farm is presented as a friendly and safe place with colorful walls, and there is no sting hazard.
It is also pointed out that bee sting allergy is in no way related to food allergy to honey and honey products.
The owner and his staff took part in a 40-hour course at the ARSSA headquarters in Cepagatti, which enabled them to prepare for the meeting with compulsory school students.
In addition, working alongside the beekeeper will be qualified personnel with a degree in Primary Education with a thesis specifically on the Educational Farm.
On the farm’s online website www.apicolturalucafinocchio.it, there are demonstration photos in the gallery section of a day spent by some children at our facility.
